I purchased some week-old chicks last evening(not sure if they have had shots or not-doubt they did).I am expecting my day-olds(they will have shots) any day now and I had planned to keep them seperated for the first 30 days then introduce because I don't want to chance losing anyone.

Is this a good idea or is it unnecessary?

Today I went to purchase more supplies for the split.I do plan to keep them on different floors in my house.
My week olds are in the basement and are quite happy.I plan to keep my day-olds on the main living area because they are bantams. These chicks are all my first ever.

They are so stinkin' CUTE!!!

i second that always quarnteen new animals of any kind..

Quarantine them! All you have to do is read gumpsgirls post on her problems and you will know why. I was given 7 adolesents that I was postive were good but, I quarentined them anyway. It never hurts to be cautious but, to just put them together could mean disaster.

Thanks a bunch!!
That's exactly what I was thinking.Better safe than sorry.

Is 30 days sufficient or should I wait longer?

Thanks for the quick response.
