Haven't got my hens yet, still preparing the ground so to speak. Am reading about 'things to have in' etc and one of these is flubenvent as wormer. Would I treat POL chickens with this when I buy them, or only if I suspect there are worms?
Is pine shavings the best for bedding?
thank you!

Welcome To BYC

I'm assuming you are EU since you mention Flubenvent.
The best way to determine if birds need to be de-wormed is to have a fecal float through your vet or you can ask the seller if the POL pullets have been treated. Some sellers may de-worm before selling, some don't.
Alternatively, if you are in the UK, then you can use mail order testing through Westgate Labs

Bedding for inside the coop? Pine shavings are fine to use, some use straw. Make sure your coop have adequate ventilation no matter what you use.

Good luck on preparations!

Deworming is not something to prepare for at the beginning. You will have signs that you might have a problem (weight loss, poor feathers, lethargy...) and at that time put it on the list. If I deworm, I like to do it while they are molting so there is no egg withdrawal.
