I have a pond/water garden and pool in my backyard, are the chickies smart enough to stay away?? I am petrified they will walk into it and drown..do chickens know how to swim lol??

I've got a pool also and have not lost one of my standard chickens to it. Although, we lost one Silkie, by accident.

They have a much harder time seeing with all the feathers.
I would keep a real close eye on them at first. I know how hard it is to lose one. Best of luck to you.

Chickens don't know how to swim. I learned the hard way. I lost several in the duck's kiddie pool. But that was above ground. They fell in when they tried to sit on the lip to get a drink. You shouldn't have any problems if your pond and pool are flush/ low to the ground.

Thats what scares me lol, There is a "retaining wall" of sorts around the pond, blocks about 6-12 inches up all the way around except the stream part, that just has slate around it so pretty flush-Pool is above ground....This is the same part of the yard I intend to put their coop in because the extra fencing should help keep out some predators(we have koi too and havent lost any to coons or what not

Just watch them closely as to how they react to the pond. Mine totally ignore mine (although my dogs certainly drink from it). If they seem interested, then you're going to have to get creative... Make sure water bowls are available in different areas too.
