Do I want to die now or later?

Yep, DH keeps telling me that he has 80 acres and a shovel.

My newest diabolical plan is to wait until my silkies grow up, hopefully grow broody and sneak some eggs under them. "Gee hun, I don't know what happened! Must be a wild peahen/duck/turkey running around the property somewhere and my silkies got ahold of their eggs!"
(Where is that totally innocent, halo-wearing smiley when you need it?)

I think you should get them then later, when you try to explain it, just be like "ohhhhh, but I just HAD to get them, just look how CUTE they are!..." lol

Quit blaming YOUR addiction on other members of the family!!

I exhibit GREAT control to NOT get any ducks--I just have 7 RIR hens--but that's because I do ALL of the animal labor, and there isn't any more energy left to take care of more.

Can you have peacocks with chickens? I saw some on craigslist a few months ago and was thinking of getting them. But when I did a look see on the internet for information about peacocks, having them, etc. I read several things that said peacocks do not do well around other birds. All the places that said that, said to have only peacocks, and no other kind of bird at all (chicks, turkeys, ducks, etc).

I think that is because peacocks eat ANYTHING. You sure won't have any rats or mice around if you get peacocks!

You have 80 acres!?! Well that's plenty of room for peafowl!!!

or it could turn out like it did with my DH - I told him at the beginning that I would ONLY get 10 chickens. Well, 7 turned out to be roosters. I was trying to find a hunter or someone who could show us how to "process" (although I really didn't want to do it) and when I finally told DH "I cant do it" he started building a rooster coop immediately!!!!!!!!!!! I think he was more inclined to keep them than I was!

good luck!

You NEED duckies. I got mine a few months ago and now I'm a fervent believer in The Quack.

They are cute, silly, friendly and not nearly as rough on plants as chickens. Plus, their icky pooey pond water is amazing for plants - and they do this really cute head tilty thing:
