i have a 65 watt light bulb hanging from ceiling in the coop. its been mid 40s to low 50s at night. they go out in the run during the day . in and out of the coop as they please during the day. they look feathered out . what ya think.

I did put my 3 Lite Brahmas in the hutch 2 days ago with no light... they are 7 weeks old. What size house are they in? As long as they are feathered, in a secured, draft free house, they should be fine. If it gets down to a hard freeze like we are apt to get up until June, just pay attention to the weather- its been iffy on light here in the foot hills.

If they are completely feathered out, they should not need any heat at night.

To avoid "afraid of the dark syndrome" turn off their lightbulb while you still have daylight, so the coop can get dark gradually as the sun sets.

You know, mine are completely feathered now and don't need a lamp. Our weather here is mild now with no surprise nighttime lows.

But whenever I got out there, I always find one basking under it - full spread out wing, leg sticking out, look of complete happiness on their little faces. Usually they jump up a few minutes later and head to the cooler parts of the cage. (They have alot of room to escape their lamp.) There's just nothing more cute.

I just don't have the heart to take it out yet since I keep them in a shaded porch. /sigh
