I'm getting 2 more chicks to add to my flock of 6 chicks. The problem is, the newbies are 2 weeks, and the rest of the flock is around 4 weeks. Obviously they can't be in the same brooder. The new babies will be too cold.

I only have one heat lamp. Do my 4 week old babies still need it? Ambient heat is high of 72 during the day, and low of 60 and night in my house. I can buy another heat lamp, but that's a tad inconvenient and I was wondering if they still needed it at all. They are pretty feathered. I don't want them to be cold though!

Here is their photo shoot. I think it shows their feathering pretty well.

Sorry it's so small. I had a hard time scaling it :(

I would continue using the heat lamp just as "insurance". At least that way they can always move away from the heat if it's too hot, or move closer if they get a chill.

Watch the four-week olds. Do they seem to avoid the heat during the day? If so, they no longer need heat during the day.

Look at them after they been asleep for an hour or two, and then later before you go to bed. Are they under the light or way off to the edges? If they are under the light, they still require it at night. If not, they no longer need it.
