Yes, agreed on Laney's advice. All you need to do is tell him how your three sheep died when you first started. I love the idea of inviting him to learn, maybe have a little BBQ.

I don't think that your initial reaction was too much. You couldn't help being afraid for your animals. Plus what he did was presumptious. He should have asked first.

Now that it is over, you might want to call your brother and let him know that you are no longer angry with him. Then explain about the three lambs that you lost. Tell him you appreciate his kindness but he really needs to ask first. You know what you are doing and he doesn't.

On the positive side, you know that you have a brother that really wants to do nice things for you.

You can point out that dog food and cat food is not the same thing. Although it wouldn't kill a cat to eat dog food, I would imagine that it would be unhealthy for them.

When I worked at McDonald's, I begged our manager to agree to get a "Do Not Feed Animals" sign. He agreed, then took a corporate position in Lansing. The new manager just laughed when I suggested it.

Why??

Customers would often buy fries to feed the sea gulls that swarmed around our store (only a few miles from Lake Huron) and as a result, these gulls would get EXTREMELY aggressive toward people. Three employees were attacked and I got into the habit of carrying a broom with me if I had to go out to the dumpster (and made the teenage girls do likewise) so I would't get pecked.

So please, do not feed sea gulls.

UPDATE:

My brother called about the feeding incident. He said that he had no idea of the different types of feed that I had for my animals. He said that he was only trying to help. I told him that I understood and I thanked him for helping. I went on to explain the different feeds and why I feed the animals different types of feed. After explaining it to him, he said that he didn't realize that it was so much work making sure that every animal got the correct feed. He just thought that all feed was the same. He jokingly said that he NEVER wants to feed the animals again. I told him that I could show him how to feed them but he said no. He said it's too much to learn and he doesn't want to mess up. He said that he would be better off by not feeding them at all. We both laughed about the incident. I told him that all of the animals were ok. He said that was a good thing because he didn't have enough money to replace all of the animals that I had. He was laughing when he said that.

So, everything is ok.

PS. I'm still going to get that Do Not Feed the Animals Sign. lol

I have read and know that medicated feed can kill ducks.

WRONG. Modern formulations of medicated chicken feed will NOT harm ducks. The medication they used to use was toxic to ducks, but that hasn't been used for years. Unless you have a 10 year old bag of feed hanging around, your ducks are safe.

I think you over reacted a bit, but it looks like everything is OK.​

i would have been scared to death too..you can do like at the horse barn where we go.. there is a chart on who eats what and how much they get.. it is very helpful for the caretakers.. if you ever had to go out of town in an emergency it would be very helpful for someone who had to take over for a bit..just put it in a notebook and keep it handy with the feed
