A really decent size thumb drive isn't that expensive....I have TONS of pictures and ALL my personal information...bank accounts, recipes and the like backed up and stored on just one drive... I keep it in my file drawer and update it once a month.

I lost everything off my computer once...it was a total freaking nightmare...It will never happen again.

There is a bright side to this. I (and a few others, I'm sure) was beginning to wonder if maybe Gopherboy had fallen and been hurt trying to install the cupola on the skyscraper..........How is that going BTW?

I signed up with Carbonite. It's fairly inexpensive insurance if you really want to keep your data safe from loss. If anyone is interested in knowing more, PM me.

I host my photos on my own webspace. Rob, I didn't realize we could use the BYC server - well, I knew there was the upload tool, but I thought it was very limited in storage space? How much space is allowed per account?

ya know what the funny thing is.......we have 7 computers in our house, all on our network....I am the one that "maintains" all of them....it's been like that for as long as I can remeber...and never once have we ever had a backup for any of our computers. Sure we have had crashes in the past but I have always managed to recover everything (or at least everything I thought I needed). I knwo we SHOULD backup our computers...but we just don't. I didnt really "lose" anything when I messed w/photo-toilet, I just had to re-link all the images. A big pain in the arse!
(I do think I might sit down some night and burn all the pics off the computers to disc since we dont even own cameras that use film so all the pics we have are on computers)

And until Rob brought it to my attention I had no idea there was an uploud up there on the BYC task line

And also, I knew there was a place here on BYC for smilies (more then jsut the line above this box) but I never noticed the "show/hide" right over there~~~~~~>
until just now!!!!

Thanks for asking....GohperBoy hasnt really got much done out on the coop....he has however got some of the painting done on the cupola in the garage when time permits (holidays and "real work").
But something better happen soon since we have 4

Yes, the space for the regular BYC user account is limited... will probably hold about 40 medium sized pictures. For members that have really popular BYC pages and lots of good pics (like Tiff) we may either bump up their space or move/copy the pics on the back end so they don't take up space in their accounts.

I have noticed this sometimes when I go to look at a picture.. photo bucket : this image has been moved or deleated.

Your the first person that I believe has actually fixed it.

I feel your pain, I have quite a few pics on photobucket too and have started making sure I organize them BEFORE I use them.

I also use my website to store pics.

STORAGE: I use 2 backup hard drives. CDs & DVDs can go bad over time. If you are ONLY burning your backup info to CDs or DVDs buy 2 brands and burn one copy to each. That way if one batch of one brand goes bad you will likely still have it on the other copy.

My wedding photos are on 2 different backup harddrives (bought on newegg.com) AND onto a couple of CDs.
