I had a pullet pacing like you describe. She also squatted. Had 2 fingers between her pelvic bones. She layed the day she was pacing.

My polishes were like that too! They would need my to be there and watch them lay!

Seriously?! I’ve had a dog and cats do that but never would have thought a chicken. Especially this girl, neither of my EEs are affectionate, treat motivated yes, the BRs I can see, they are clingy.

Yeah they would follow me around and step on my shoes and peck me until I put them in the nest box! And then I would have to help them by turning them around and watching them. Polishes are a very nervous breed!

I thought they liked privacy. Every time she goes in and squats down most of the other girls follow, circle around and cluck. This is truly facinating.

I recommend blowing it out to preserve it! I regret not doing it with my first egg!

Depends on the individual. I have had a hen who HATED me watching her. She was a picky teen and also screamed when I got too close

She settled in when I sat down with her! I’m so touched!

Update. We have had 14 eggs laid in the past 9 days

I get this with my gals when they wanna lay their eggs, whining loudly, pacing back and forth, fluffing out their feathers and jumping on me as I open the hutch to see what is up, when normally they jump down to mow the grass.
Sometimes they just want me to sit there as they get cozy and lay their egg in the nestbox, sometimes they want me to take them to their night cage to lay, and other times they will even snuggle into my jumper and pop out an egg on me.
