Do pullets pace before POL?

This is Aileen a week ago, except for squatting she was her usual standoffish I prefer not to touched self. She is 21 weeks old, an EE, active but laid back. Today she is jumping in my lap, allowing me to check her vent, following me, pacing, and going in and out of the coop repeatedly. I can hear her in a nest box scuffling around, cackling loudly. Her vent is quite big, color is normal, space between pelvic bones is over 3 fingers wide, I do not feel anything unusual. Is this typical behavior? She’s almost cuddling with me and that is not who this girl is.

I had a pullet pacing like you describe. She also squatted. Had 2 fingers between her pelvic bones. She layed the day she was pacing.

She has picked a spot where the fan is blowing. I think it may be happening!

Sounds normal to me! Usually once chickens get to POL or have been laying for a little while they will mature. In my experience when they mature they get sweeter and more tolerant.

My polishes were like that too! They would need my to be there and watch them lay!

Seriously?! I’ve had a dog and cats do that but never would have thought a chicken. Especially this girl, neither of my EEs are affectionate, treat motivated yes, the BRs I can see, they are clingy.

I thought they liked privacy. Every time she goes in and squats down most of the other girls follow, circle around and cluck. This is truly facinating.

Depends on the individual. I have had a hen who HATED me watching her. She was a picky teen and also screamed when I got too close
