Do quail screech?

My husband and son just informed me that my quail have been screeching off and on. I’ve never heard it happen. They appear to be fine. I don’t know how long this has been going on or when it’s more prevalent, day or night. Any thoughts? I’ve posted under “hold outs” about not getting any eggs yet, I wonder if the two topics are related.

I'm new to quail keeping but I've definitely heard a noise that could be described as screeching, but it seems to match the sound I've heard in YouTube videos of males when I Googled it to make sure it's normal, I knew they made noises but I underestimated how loud it would be!

Apparently so did I. This is a big problem because we only recently found out we’re apparently not supposed to have them. I planned on moving them out of our garage once the underside of our deck was enclosed. I hate scraping my windshield and my driveway is steep making winter pretty terrible. Maybe we could soundproof their enclosure while it’s being built. Any ideas anyone?

If it is the crowing sound you are hearing, then they are males, and you won't be getting any eggs from them.

My young male quail crows over and over in the early hours of the morning (5AM-6AM), and sporadically during the day. It is quite loud, but most people don't know what that sound is and don't realize it is a domestic bird.

I played it for them and they said it sounds more screechy, whatever that means, lol.

The sound varies a bit between individuals. My quail's crow is a fuller sound than the one in the video, if you know what I mean. I am sure that if it is a quail crow, you will begin hearing it more frequently.

I’m hoping nobody will pick up on it, but the meter reader walks around the back of each of our houses for whatever reason. I think their crow is really pretty, almost like a songbird.

I agree, unless it occurs continuously while I am trying to sleep.
There used to be a kind of Japanese coturnix quail that were bred to be songbirds, but they were destroyed in WWII.
