Do quail screech?

My girls screech when they lay eggs... I'm not sure if yours are laying eggs yet. It's not as loud as a crow but isn't quiet either. The first time I heard it, I thought someone was hurt.

My girls screech when they lay eggs... I'm not sure if yours are laying eggs yet. It's not as loud as a crow but isn't quiet either. The first time I heard it, I thought someone was hurt.

We were talking with the guy we bought them from for quite a while and during that time we heard several crows and egg songs. I thought they both sounded really nice, almost like a songbird call. I guess I won’t know for sure until I hear what my husband and son are hearing.

My husband and son just informed me that my quail have been screeching off and on. I’ve never heard it happen. They appear to be fine. I don’t know how long this has been going on or when it’s more prevalent, day or night. Any thoughts? I’ve posted under “hold outs” about not getting any eggs yet, I wonder if the two topics are related.
