I have 2 adult RIR hens. They have tan legs. My 5.5 mo RIR looks just like them but she has yellow/orangy legs. I was told she was an aracana when I bought her but it didn't really matter and it didn't take long to realize she wasn't. My Delaware White has yellowish legs too but not my other RIRs. Might she be mixed or hybrid or???

A proper RIR has yellow legs. But life is not always that simple. If a hen has yellow legs and skin, she can use some of that yellow to color her egg yolks. If a yellow legged hen lays a lot of eggs by the end of the laying season the yellow in her legs may be used up. That's one way to tell which of your yellow skinned hens is the better layer. If her legs are still a bright yellow after a full laying season she may not be laying a lot of eggs. Of course this only works with yellow skinned hens. Could that tan be pale yellow legs?
