Do roos prefer to mate with their own variety?

They really don't matter. My roosters is just mates any female on sight

Chicken life if anything is short and brutish. If a rooster is successful at passing his DNA on down the line he must be forever on the lookout for every opportunity.

The same thing is true when hens lay in the nests of other hens. A buddy of mine West of here just had a hen steal her nest and she showed up with 15 healthy chicks. Now over a week later she still has 15 chicks even though she is brooding her hatchlings on the bare Earth with only her feathers between her chicks and the cold cold rain.
