Do Roos Squat?

IMO, that's a hen as well. 27 weeks puts this birds at.....a little more than 6 months, right? Anyway, at that age my Silkie boy was obviously a boy. His comb was much bigger, and he's a bearded- which are normally harder to tell on bc their combs and wattles don't get as big as non-bearded (non-bearded hens are supposed to have more obvious facial features). I also don't see any obvious streamers coming off her crest. It does have the darker buff on its wings, but not in the other places you'd see it on a male (hackles and saddles). I have 2 blue cream hens (buff diluted with lavender), and one of them is a light buff. The other is pretty dark and has the more reddish spots on her like your birds. I vote GIRL, and if she squats just about everytime you're near, you can probably expect a cute little egg soon ;)

That's a hen! Well, it looks like it to me!

I'm so glad to hear. I was wondering about a squatting roo, but being a newbie and understanding that silkies take awhile to sex, I wanted to make sure about the squatting. Funny thing, the silkie that is supposed to take a long time to lay is squatting before the EE's that are a week older. 6 chickens all 27 and 28 weeks old and only two are laying. But that's another topic. Here's to the other silkie being a girl too :)

It's official, my squatting rooster laid her first egg today, a lovely cream colored egg. It's tiny but then again so is SHE!!! So glad "he" turned into a she :) And at just shy of 28 weeks she beat out both EE'ers who are a week older and have no interest in laying yet. Good girl Gertie!!

Congrats!
My squatters are all girls too, I'm also relieved but their egg farts arent worth pictures yet.
Plus they are just getting the idea that laying in poop isnt the best thing for an egg.
