Do Rooster prefer hens of their own breed and color?

Roosters are males. It's rare to find a male who is actually picky when it comes to....uhhhh....mating.

Both of my roos have their favorites - and none are the same breed as them. My Phonenix roo totally LOVES the White Faced Black Spanish hens. My Silver Gray Dorking is partial to the Phoenix hens. Both will nail anything with a heartbeat that can't outrun them though.

I have three roos, 1 ea silver leghorn, white leghorn, and buff monorcin and we have 16 hens of the same breeds. The silver leghorn will try the white leghorn hens and the buff monorcins, the white leghorn only goes after the silver leghorns and buff monorcins, and the buff monorcin has at all of the hens and is the dominate roo AFTER me and tries to keep the other two off of any hen. The hens also have some favorites though since the silver leghorn hens will squat for the white leghorn and even have done it for me when I try to pet them but they won't for either of the other two roos. The rest may or may not squat for the buff monorcin roo and all of the hens run from the silver leghorn because I think he is on the bottom of the pecking order of the roos.

I have ONLY silkies. The roosters are white. I have hens in ALL colors. The roosters will only hang around and try to mate with: the WHITE hens. Strange!

We have 3 black silkies, 2 white silkies, 3 OE bantys, 2 seabrights, 5 Barred Rocks and 5 Partridge Rocks--
All the Bantys seem to "self segregate" and hang out in pairs (or 3's) according to breed & color! Our poor Mille Fluer D'Uccle is all alone-- but one of the OE boys seems to have taken a shine to her!

The Rocks all hang in a flock..... wherever the food is! LOL!
