This is a pretty silly question. I hatched out coturnix quail in October and they have been mature but I haven't heard any crowing at all. I had these kind of quail but never over winter. Out of 7 birds and I dont think they are all female. Also not a single egg. Probably because days are too short.

It takes at least 8 weeks to mature, so they're only between 9-12 weeks depending om when they were hatched. My males usually started crowing later and my gals usually waiting until around 3 months to start laying when the light was still pretty good

Mine used to crow all the time. Most of the males got culled and now that there's no battle for supremacy, it's pretty quiet.

Both of them stopped now. I think around October. The Texas A &M was pretty loud but when I put him with 4 hens he was very content and stopped.
