Do These chicks look almost 5 weeks old?

Quote:
I bet they were 3 DAYS old when you got them on 4/10. Mine are 5 weeks and they look much more like preppyhippychicks.

They look fine and healthy. I'd say they are about 3 weeks old & as the person above said, it depends on the breed & sometimes, the gender as to the rate of feathering. They have too much chick down remaining to be any older.

preppy*hippie*chick :

Not if mine are five weeks old. I got 5 pullets, all supposed to be five weeks. The thing is, I don't know either. Three look like mini hens and the two smaller ones are much bigger than what yours are. They're BLR Wyandottes if it matters. These were taken the night I picked them up. For size reference, the background is my 65 pound 10 year old.

Two of the larger ones:

One of the smaller ones (Does still have a bit of chick down):

Maybe mine are just a lot older than they're supposed to be. I know they grow fast, but I thought "Geez Louise - they're HUGE!!!".

Hopefully someone will weigh in and tell us how old they all look!

mine are 5 weeks tomorrow and they look like yours, similar size and all. mine have nearly all of their feathers. I bought them at TSC so I am pretty confident of their age.

as for the chicks in the OP, I would say more on the lines of 3 weeks. surely not more than that. and for breeds, i wouldn't know

Methinks you and I got chicks from the same place (LOL). I think mine were 2 days old (not 2 wks), cuz mine look just like yours -- still fuzzy, still fits in my hand easily. OTOH, I've got a couple that were supposedly 3.5 wk old, and they sure look more like 5-6wk to me (and a couple of my friends). Hhmmm... is there a chick-age conspiracy?

I remember thinking that they seemed twice as big with each passing week, at least at the beginning. Here's a pic of mine when two of them were about 8 weeks, and the little one was about 5 weeks.

Our Sp. Sussex chicks are almost 4 weeks old and have more feathers. They look like they could be a little younger than 5 weeks by the amount of down.
