Hello,

Thank you in advance for the help. A local breeder says she has the Dan Powell lines of golden laced brahmas. This is her mating pair. I think the female does not look very good at all. What do you think? Is she molting? Should I buy some chicks from her if these are the parents? Thank you for help.

The male looks to have good brahma type. Not sure on the color of them but type seems to be lacking on the female. I think the male is just tearing her up and she's not molting. How much do they weigh? I can't say much about them because the picture is kind of bad.

The female appears to be lacking several of the necessary genes to make for correct lacing. Her lacing should look more like this though these are Cochins.

The brreder just told me it is from the rooster tearing her up but here is a photo from a few months ago, that looks WAY better to me, what do you all think?

Her condition is much better in the picture, but she has a narrow head and a pointy tail. Heads should be very wide with a brow. Her tail should be very broad like an upside down U from behind. Her lack of correct lacing is still an issue.

So are these most likely NOT Dan Powell lines? She said she would sell me 4 chicks for $30. Is that a good price then? Thank you!

Yes they could be out of Dan Powells' lines. But the first pick you posted were to poor quality birds. Should not be used as breeders of the breed. And should be in a stew pot. The price for the chicks are fine for any run of the mill chick. But don't expect breeder quality chicks.
