Do they actaully like me ...or am I just an interesting new roost?

I think I could get pretty attached to the more affectionate ones. I like them all and of course the 2 barred rocks are my current favs. They are not quite like my dogs, but if they remain so well tempered I doubt these ladies will see a crock or stewpot when their laying days are over. I got my girls for the eggs - like most people dp - but don't remember the chickens I was around as a kid having this much personality! They certainly can be both livestock and pets.

The ones that are more "pets" have a bit more leeway and some "forgiveness" coming their way in my eyes. Does/will anyone else be doing things this way/ I think it's a good compromise for us - we're in it for the eggs after all! Anyone attacking myself or my kiddos though will likely become chicken and noodles...

Yup, my hens will die of contented old age. I had a ton of roos hatch this year, and had to face the truth that I will have to be mighty desperate before I kill a chicken. Luckily, I was able to rehome them to a very good place.

So I have blurred the line between livestock and pets, thought I am still slightly on the livestock side.

I don’t know about you guys but I am having a hard time seeing my Chickies having to stay outside at night. They were started out doors on April 20. They stay out during the day. They have been sleeping inside at night because they have no secure nighttime coop or run. I have an old chain link dog run that I have been working on for their permanent home. Then last week providence caught up with me and the doctors think that I have had a small stroke.

Now I will have to have surgery very soon and I may be away from the house for a few days or more. So today, I Mickey moused a more secure pen outside. I hope that this may keep Godzilla out for a few minutes.

I have very wonderful friends but they are not animal people. I have two very large raccoons in the area and I am trying to tell them how strong these animals can be if let to their own devices.

I am feeling really sad. I am going to miss their chicken night-night song. It is the sweetest sound in the world.

They have the whole yard to explore and all they want to do is sit with me and they stay by the back door chatting away to each other. Getting them in at night is no problem. I just open the back door, they all run in past my amazed cats, and one by one, they wait for me to pick them up and put them in their pen.

I thought when I got them that they would be a lot of trouble but they have been good little girls. They are about nine weeks old and I call them the Four Musketeers. They all get along so well and I do not want anything bad to happen to them.

Thanks for letting me vent. I want this all over with as fast as possible so I can come home to my chickies.
