This might be a silly question but i wondered, do you open their door every day , no matter the weather outside and let them decide if they want to come out or not, or do you just keep them in when it is snowing or raining?

I open the door every single day, no matter the weather. Whether they choose to come out or not is up to them.

Their door gets open everyday rain or shine. If its raining they will just go under their covered area in the run or stay in. Sometimes it might snow here in NC and they wont go out, but its open for them to go out if they decide to!

The only time I don't let them out is during windstorms with winds above about 60 mph.

Imp- don't want them getting hit by debris or becoming debris.

I open the door every day, but when the temps are subzero I close after about 1/2 an hour and then open it again once or twice more during the day. That is my only concession to the weather and my ladies tend to go out everyday, even if only to find out it isn't worth it.

When there was 6" of snow in the run I kept the coop closed. When I had paths shoveled into the yard going to the coop and to the back gate I'd open the big door and let them out for a while during the warmest part of the day. Of course, that meant there was poo on the path, and only on the path. Meh.

Otherwise I open the coop.
