About ten years ago we lost one of our pet chickens. The vet was intregued and did a free autopsy to determine the cause of death. She said it was a disease it should have been immunized against at a day old so was surprised. I don't remember the name of it though.

This time we bought from a non commercial breeder so they are not immunized. I asked my vet and local feed store and one didn't know much about chooks (different vet) and the other treated me like an idiot for asking.

So just so I know exactly what I do need to be asking about thought I'd ask here.

It's really up to you whether you wish to have your birds vaccinated or not. Most people dont vaccinate, I dont neither. The diseases that you face in Australia are most likely world wide diseases such as the mycoplasma diseases, marek's disease and many others.
Most vets here only see dogs and cats and are ignorant when it comes to poultry.
