Do we need a treaty with the U.N.

Being allies should never blind us to the wrong things that a country does. Isreal does not have clean hands and neither does Palestine.

One problem with allies is that, especially if you profess unconditional support, they may one day let you down or at least embarrass you. They may demand your support in something you believe is wrong.

Israel was created with a great deal of support for what seemed noble and just reasons. Today, it's government, but by no means all of its citizens, displays some of the characteristics of the regime under which its founders had suffered in Europe. There is no sign that the government wants peace. On the contrary, it seems hell bent on taking every opportunity to destroy a little bit more of the freedom, and even existence, of the people living on the land that it invaded and occupied.

Don't be surprised if the enemies of your allies rejoice in your misfortunes just as you may rejoice in theirs. Palestinians are as much subject to propaganda as are the citizens of the states that support Israel. What is the real reason for supporting a state in an illegal occupation of land when after all these decades it should be able to stand on its own feet? Perhaps it has something to do with votes at home. Or the profits of the arms industry.

Both sides are at war and many innocent lives have been lost. Certainly, neither is all right or all wrong and a war crimes tribunal could be kept busy for a very long time. However, screaming for one side and against another will never bring peace to that region, let alone to Israel and Palestine. Isn't it time to put a stop to the jingoism and help the ordinary people of those two nations solve their differences?

I was thrilled to see the UN grant a sort of "State" status to the Palistinians. Now when they decide to lob their rockets then Israel can declare a formal state of war and bomb them back into the middle ages. I do not care what the reason or what propaganda anyone lives under. Burn my flag and I will see you burn in hell. As for illegal occupation I am hoping that maybe another one of Israel's nice neighbors will see fit to declare war again because Israel can use a bit more land for settlements.

Illegal Occupation? That was Israels land from the time of Joshua conquering it.even at that time the term ' palestinian was NEVER in existance.only when Rome became proctor did they change the name of Israel to Palestinian States. This was copied by the brittish whom occupied it for so long as their brittish empire. So to say Israel has illegaly siezed it is wrong.Their herritage is there, their temple was there, their lives and ancestors were there. My Moriah is there. And if you look on a topographical map you will see the "sheen" of God on the land.

1 Kings: 11:36 I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name

Looks like a Sheen to me....ש

Mendoza...you are correct, however, I think the land that they are referring to is the land Israel took from those Arabian bastions of freedom and goodwill as a result of the 1967 war. Personally, I dont think they should relinquish that either.

the problem is the people in the area of the middle east keep polarizing themselves, like the Irish over there own religious matters. you don't see Catholics and Protestants trying to wipe each other out in the US like some in Ireland are trying to do. same thing with Jews, Christians, and Muslims in America they are a lot more tolerant of each other then ones in the middle east

Perhaps I'm wrong but I think that the Jews migrated to what is called the Holy Land or Promised Land from Egypt where they had been enslaved. They weren't previously in what is now called Israel, the Occupied Territories, Gaza or the West Bank. At least, that's what I recall from books written centuries ago but they too may be inaccurate. That's often the problem, isn't it? One group points to a time in history to support its claim and another points at a different time.

There's land in the south of Thailand where Muslims are committing what are known as terrorist acts. Many people complain that Muslims are a nuisance wherever they are found. What is conveniently ignored is the fact that the land in question was part of Muslim Malaya but given to Thailand by the Japanese in WWII as a thank you for not resisting the building of the Burma Railway. Also forgot is the fact that the same land was, even earlier, part of what is now Thailand. So, who's right in futile disputes such as these.

Wars never bring lasting peace.

Also, in both Northern Ireland and in Israel/Palestine people are fighting for control of territory. The religion just gives an additional layer to the whole complex issue.

Also, on the whole UN treaty thing. I haven't heard one logical reason for not ratifying the treaty. What I did hear was a bunch of people muttering about the UN, as if this treaty would somehow put the US under UN jurisdiction on people with disabilities. It should have passed.

Are you trying to derail the derail ?

Hi "Gmendoza" Nothing to do with this thread,
but I am intrigued that someone from the US would
have a quotation about bunyips.

I live on the edge of the Bunyip State Forest, and close to the Bunyip river.

regards
