Do you change the name of the chicken if they turn out to be a boy or girl?

I know this is a silly question but it looks like "big boy" is gonna be a girl...The chicken knows her name as big boy so should I change it or just keep calling her what she was named. Are there rules for this?

No rules. It depends on the bird. We've done both. We have a female duck named Fred whose name my kids didn't change (obviously) and a gander who they changed from Kate to Humphrey, but they have two names picked out for each of our Silkies because we can't tell whether they are male or female yet. Go figure.

I hope things go well with your hen.

There is no rules I know of for changing chickens names. It is difficult to train a chicken to know its name however so it would probably be even harder to rename it and expect it to recognize the change. We usually give our chickens names that have to do with their personality or physical characteristics like 'Fiesty' or 'Snowy' and we named our red star 'Estrella Rojo' because that is the Spanish translation of red star. Good luck with 'Big Boy.'

I did this with an adopted dog....called him by his kennel name and added the name I wanted on to the end.
Called him with both then eventually phased out the old.

Had a bird named "Papa." Then it laid eggs so we figured we should start calling it Mama instead... Thought it made a little more sense.
