Do you change your feed in the winter ?

Did those come in crumbles? I’ve got some one time and it was so so Sandy. They seem to waste a lot of it

I’ve seen 5lb bags of flock grower crumble at my local feed store, so I’d assume there’s bigger bags of crumble. I feed mine Egg Maker Crumble 15 (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Family-Farm-Egg-Maker-Crumble-Complete-Animal-Feed-40-lbs/10323565) and scratch grains of the same brand, along with kitchen scraps from the restaurant I work at year round. They don’t eat it all, so possums and raccoons come out at night, and the cat that lives on my porch comes out during day to help.

This is one reason we don't offer much in the way of kitchen scraps - I don't want to lure raccoons and opossums and other predators into the area! Even mice and rats, which may then attract aerial predators. Just no.

It seems I lose less birds when the scavengers have a daily buffet, sometimes I’ll get home late and rush to go close the coop door and a possum or coon is out there eating scraps and paying no mind to my birds. I’d poison them, but my mom wouldn’t let me when I could, and now the cat on my porch eats food out there too. And I’ve only had rats when I used my mud room as a coop, otherwise I haven’t had problems.

Edit: oh my gosh maybe Socks is keeping all the rodents away :love I suggest everybody get a cat

This post could not have come at a better time! I'm on my way to purchase another bag of food for my girls. Typically I feed Purina Layena but will switch to the Flock Raiser. My girls are a 1.5 years old and all still laying. Last year they gave me eggs through November and then took a few months off.

Thanks for the info!
