I don't have a dog but I was entertaining the same idea. My worry about be the spread of diseases though. But at least in either case, you don't waste the body.
In the past, I have had to use the car to put down an animal. I was not physically strong enough to do it myself and it was an emergency. A friend of mine (I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE) wraps sickly chicks in a paer towel and stomps on them with her big boots. She says the die instantaneously.

Do you hit them with a shovel or take their head off? The first time I had to kill a chick it was literally instantaneous so I was happy and sad. This time though it was very traumatizing. I think it is because I have been losing half of that entire batch already. Just watching them die without much to do about it but to end their suffering is just depressing. I will have another one when I come home tonight and I am not looking forward to it.
I can't stand to do it with my hands......I tell the little baby I'm sorry, place it gently in paper lunch bag, and set it in the freezer. Go back later and all is quiet. A friend shared that method with me.
I can cut a mean rooster's head off in a heartbeat though. I just have trouble with chicks.......

My husband does that ith mice and birds that the cats caught. I was going to try it until I saw a mouse explode from it and that was even more disgusting. He can do that with wild animals but he cannot get himself to do it with ours.

Same here, same here. I am glad I am not alone. I think I am ok if it had a good life or it was a mean rooster, but a baby chick that hasn't even had a chance to enjoy life yet, eat watermelon, scratch in the dirt...that is just sad.

That's exactly how I feel....I just can't do the deed with my own hands, when it's a fuzzy little baby.......I had one with deformed legs and the feet were missing a few toes, so I had to do that this spring.......It was still a cutie pie.......Couldn't walk though.......You are right, it's just SAD!
When I hit it with a shovel, I hit with the flat part. I don't slice it's neck or anything. I hate culling silkies especially. I had a young one and she was just sitting there looking all cute and what not. She didn't even look like a chicken!
