Probably going to get them from Chick Depot. I can get the 5 minimum, and go pick them up (2 hour drive each way). She won't have them till June.I love my Blue Australorps!

Sigh. I’ve never had a chicken die from old age yet. Of course, we’ve only lost 3, but it still seems like a lot when I only have 7 hens now and 8 chicks. It’s always been predatorsI have had chickens for a while now and numbers have always not been stationary leaving me in some really sad and really happy moments of owning chickens. At the start of 2020 I had 7 chickens but I lost one in January but my SLW went broody 9 days later and we got 2 Barnevelder chicks for her! It definitely numbed the pain of loosing our best layer and a really good friend. Then my eldest chicken (who was the last chicken of our first batch) died at the end of July which hit really hard. In mid October one of my LS’s went to a vet trip but sadly didn’t come home (I held her sister close after that). So now since October I haven’t gained or lost any and am quite content in having 6 chickens and my focus is on keeping them happy and healthy instead of getting more chickens.
I would be lying to all of you though if I didn’t tell you about my dream chickens and dream flock...
I‘ve actually had dreams on this lol!I want a big flock! Really big! Full of big chickens, small chickens, colourful egg layers, big egg layers, small egg layers (the usual).
I have always wanted 2 welsummers named Fairy and Tigris. (Don’t ask me why) I have other breeds and names that I‘ve always wanted but the main thing I want (and am kind of jealous of my best friend and her flock over the years) is chickens that live a long time. I get so attached to every chicken that I own that I would like that attachment to be longer than some of my previous chickens lifespans. My best friends flock is like my second flock though
and I know she’d say the same about mine. They lost some last year as well including my favourite one of theirs which took more of a toll on me than I thought. I know that she would be interested in this thread! @Quailobsessed Sorry for this long response!
Hope everyone is well!

I want a full show quality flock. Each coop with 1 rooster and 3 hens.
I would have:
-Chocolate English Orpingtons
-Blue English Orpingtons
-Blue Ameraucanas
-Wheaten Malays
-Lemon Blue Modern Games
-Brown red OEGB
-White Jersey Giant
I would also like to have gamefowl pairs:
-Kelso
-Mugs
-Pumpkin husley
-Red Toppy
I know how much work that would be but I’m up for the effort. I’ve been working towards my dream flock recently so I hope everything goes as planned. I’d love to have a place set off just for the chickens. It would be amazing to have that.
They do talk, but it takes time to learn their language. Most of ours just cackle but we got 5 24-36 hour old Buckeyes last year and I had to raise them in the spair bedroom in the basement during a surprise delivery of arctic air. Lost one in the first two days, but after 3-4 months they would chortle in one "voice/language" approaching the feed bin in another, announce their border collie in yet another and so on...A chicken that could talk! LOL!![]()
