Someone else mentioned that it is a good manner for a guy to have on another thread. Personally, I'm always very surprised when a guy opens a door for me and lets me walk through first. Seems like it is so rare now a days! I also think it is sweet when I see a guy open the car door for a girl, or help her out of the car. It's always nice to see guys acting gentlemanly! At my age, *most* guys are still acting very immature.

How many of you boys here on this site open doors for the ladies?

When I first started dating my husband(he was 20) he always opened doors for me. I always hated it especially the car door, I could open it faster and be out before he came over to open it. But....6 years later and he still does it.

I dont know if its a more southern thing or not but doors are always getting held open around here..
Women holding for men, men holding for women, men holding for men...
Guess its just one of those things where youd want someone to hold it open for you so you do it and just hopes it gets paid forward?

Getting the car door open for me is a little tougher. The only time that happens is when Im having a slow day and my SO doesnt think Im moving fast enough

My DH does not open the car door for me (I'm more dependent) but he will open regular doors for me from the opposite side.

Meaning he reaches in front of me to push open the door rather than come up to the right side of me to open for me. I've been with him over 20 years. I'm used to that now.

Hubby'd have to bolt to get to a door before me anyways. We just both walk along talking and whoever happens to be on the door side grabs the door. I don't see why he should be the dedicated bellhop anymore than I should... though I guess if I whined and nagged him enough I could get him to do it. *shrug* Dogs need training... partners don't. Just my two cents. *passes salt shaker*

when i go to the gas station i open the door to who ever is coming behind me,and yes,i do open doors for my queen even after 12 years, and when she is upset i know that by doing so, i can get her to smile and have a good day after that,

My husband always holds the door for me and I have taught my daughters to always hold the door for elderly people male or female as I do. I even help elderly ladies put their groceries in their cars after politely asking, and then I return their carts for them. It is fairly common practice around here for gentlemen to hold doors for ladies. I also hold the door for the men with hand trucks full of drinks...

I know they can do it themselves but it's just rude to not IMO...my hands aren't full, so...why not? We have strict guidelines on how to behave in public and how to look out for others in my family. I wasn't really taught that, but just adopted the habits as I got older and hope my kids continue as they get grown. Otherwise I will teach the grandkids the same. It's just nice.

I always will try and hold doors open for women. Sometimes it's hard to do when they are running in front of you in such a rush but even then I'll try and use my height and arm length to at least grab the door away and hold it.

Good parents still teach their children manners.
