I was my silkies completely before a show, and I usually ahve to wash my cochins butts before a show (too many feathers for all that poop to get stuck on!) and the kitchen sink has always been the easiest for me. A bathtub would work pretty well too.

The best trick for rinsing them off though is some rice vinegar diluted in some water, rinse that over them once and it takes all the soapy residue off, they are squeeky clean after that! And dish soap works well for the actual scrubbing.

It's a pain but if you set your washer on warm-gentle cycle, they come out sparkling!

Yes I've washed chickens when they have poopy butt or a broody's egg explodes on her. I need to wash 3 poopy butts tomorrow. I use a rubbermaid container and a little puppy shampoo.

We only wash our show chickens. We also use the 3 bucket method, and use Dawn dishsoap in the 1st bucket.

All of our chickens love the bath. They darn near fall asleep while I am washing them. I think they also like being held while wrapped up in a towel to dry. They are so relaxed, they do fall asleep.

Not sure about the lice issue, though. Knock on wood, I haven't had to deal with that. Good luck.

Probably a human lice treatment shampoo would work. Or perhaps something with tea-tree oil.

And dust them and the coop/nest boxes etc.. with DE.
