Looooovvvvve onions. It's a staple at my house -- cooked or raw. Although, I wouldn't eat it like an apple. My grandpa would do that. Peel it and then eat it just as you would an apple. That's yucky to me!! Then he'd give you a kiss.
Hate them! I don't mind the flavor when they are cooked with something, but don't want to eat the onion. I can eat onion rings if the onion isn't very thick. I feel the same way about tomatoes. Love tomato sauce, but hate tomatoes. I'm good at eating around both of them.
Onions are good as long as they aren't all slimy in a stew (baby onions especially). Now...if we're frying potatoes, they just call for onions. The onions' sweetness complements the potatoes' mealiness. We like to cook the onions until they carmelize. YUM!
Couldn't stand them, as a kid, unless they were finely chopped, and well cooked. Now, nothing gets cooked without them...I still like them finely chopped, if in an egg or tuna salad. I'll eat them, sliced, on a hamburger.
I can cut a few up at home with minimal discomfort too.
But I started working at Papa John's and they make a lot of fresh-prepped stuff, including onions. I work morning shift so I prep. The bane of my existence thesedays is having to slice several buckets of onions every morning. They sting my eyeballs and stuff up my nose, and my face turns red, the whole nine yards. Then I get the pleasure of going on a delivery run looking like I've just lost my best friend....
