Driving along, I love it when I see a Farm Fresh Egg Stand. There is a woman a couple of miles from me who has one. She sells her farm fresh eggs on the honor system...and doesn't get ripped off. In fact, at the end of the day, there is often "extra money" in the jar for the amount of eggs she sold. I have often purchased my eggs from her...that will change starting in August when my hens begin laying. I want to start my own Farm Fresh Egg Stand as well.

I have become very curious about egg stands, but there are not too many pictures or information on the internet that I have been able to find. To me, it represents one of the most basic rural home businesses and a symbol of Americana. Or, maybe I am just romanticizing. Well, anyway.....

Do you have your own egg stand? If you do, I'd love to see a picture and hear your story.

Thanks.

I sell mine and get a nice profit from it which pays for keeping the chickens and i get an extra 35 pound a week to spend on what i like normally!!! Ill try and get a pic!!!

I do not have an egg stand YET, but I have been noodling around ideas for a year... Maybe I'll get to it before Winter gets here. Or build it next Spring.

It will be on the honor system; I picked the brain of a woman operating an honor produce stand on her property. She also allows a close friend of hers to sell eggs there, so I got some valuable information about county restrictions and how to navigate through the local government "issues."

I have the perfect, shaded place to put up a walk-in 4 by 8 building (not unlike a coop I built once) on concrete pier blocks. Inside a set of gates. I am going to use t-posts and welded wire to section off enough space for the stand; my flock ranges freely, so during "open" times they can be wherever they want without getting out. Heck, I may leave it permanently and let grass grow around the stand! :D. Maybe plant some actual flowers there, too....

Anyway, saving up some money to spend on my next project. :)

Spook doesn't sell eggs. Always just gave them away
to the neighbors.

But there are a few "honor" stands in my area, doing produce
and such. They seem to do quite well to the extent that I've
never heard of a loss.

Sounds great! Hope you will post a pic when you build it.

Here are some California regs for selling eggs

Spook

Most honor stand people I have talked to (produce and/or chicken eggs) say they have never had a problem with people not paying or stealing, and often people leave a "tip" or a little extra.

I only have 5 layers right now, but come the next month or so I should have 16. :) I have thought about an egg stand but due to how my driveway is, I wouldn't have anywhere to put it up. I thought about the honors system and putting something out for people to just stop at the driveway and buy eggs, but I don't trust where I live. After numerous stolen garbage cans, egg signs, and deliberately smashed mailboxes, including one last night... :/ I don't think mine would do so well. Looks like the farmers market it is!
