Thank you for asking, Yes! Speckled sussexes are wonderful with kids! I think they're even more friendly than the buff orpington! I highly recommend them.

Now i need some advice on coops. We plan on building a coop for 3-5 hens. Would recommend hardware cloth or chicken wire, and how big should the holes be? 1/2 inch? 1/4 inch?

Also, i've heard that racoons know how to open simple locks on coops. What kind of locks should i purchase? and where from?

I would do the holes 1/2 an inch. I have a tight lock on my chicken coop I got from home depot. I think they have a great selection of tight locks!
