Didn't have enough room for my question. Anyway, do I have to wait till my chicks who are 7 weeks old to be on laying feed to be able to put them in with my other two older hens? I have 6 and they are in a large dog kennel at night or if it is raining (like today) and they are getting squished in there. During the day they are in the run which I separated but the run is not covered so if there is rain I have to leave them in the dog kennel. Any suggestions? I do have another smaller dog crate that I could separate the 6 chicks and put three in each but I wasn't sure how they would like it as they peep loudly when not together. [IMG]

Consider putting one or two corrugated roofing panels over one end of the run as a rain shelter.

and yes, you shouldn't put them together until they can be put on laying feed.. at least 18 weeks. 16 weeks if you mix grower w/ layer.
