Didn't have enough room for my question. Anyway, do I have to wait till my chicks who are 7 weeks old to be on laying feed to be able to put them in with my other two older hens? I have 6 and they are in a large dog kennel at night or if it is raining (like today) and they are getting squished in there. During the day they are in the run which I separated but the run is not covered so if there is rain I have to leave them in the dog kennel. Any suggestions? I do have another smaller dog crate that I could separate the 6 chicks and put three in each but I wasn't sure how they would like it as they peep loudly when not together.

and yes, you shouldn't put them together until they can be put on laying feed.. at least 18 weeks. 16 weeks if you mix grower w/ layer.
