I was lucky. My parents never minded about the music I listened to though they didnt listen to the same. So when I became a mom I didnt mind the songs my kids liked. Some I actually like. We have always had a wide range of music in our house as DH is a DJ. I'm not thrilled with rap as to me thats just a bunch of cussing. But my kids have developed a wide range of music likes. They like oldies country rock some hip hop classical(my 25 year old has loved Mozart since she was a liitle girl at 4 years old could tell you what sonata from the first few notes).

I listen to evey thing. I mean every thing...if you were to go in my truck and turn the radio on right now its on a rap station. But the next preset is country. My parents like some of the music(the country/clasic rock) while they hate some(rap metal) I mainly listen to country theough. I got the whole Family(even my 16 year old sister (who hates anything contry) listening to country.

I don't like some of the music my son likes, but I don't really mind him listening to it. He has a right to develop his own tastes. We do talk about some of the stuff he listens to, because he is a huge hip hop/rap fan, and lyrically some of that music is really offensive. He understands what and why I object. He also listens to Johnny Cash, the Beach Boys, some classical, and a wide variety of rock. I also don't like some of the music my dh listens to. There is only so much Brazilian music I can take before it drives me nuts, and I think every Porno for Pyros recording should be burned. I'm pretty sure they would sound better with the cds melted.

So far the 10 year old likes the Who, zydeco and Roseanne Cash.

I'm pretty sure my mom would have been appalled by what I listened to in college: Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, Mojo Nixon my fav the Violent Femmes, and other similar bands.

Rap, in my humble opinion, is the MUST un artistic music out there!

When my kids started listening to the newer music I pulled out the 80's music like Cheap Trick, Van Halen, and such and they liked it more than the newer stuff.

Never could get into rap. Funny though the one I actually did not mind was a white guy, Vanilla Ice. (When I was young most rap was by blacks).

My parents like my music. I listen to mostly classical, opera, operettas, and sometimes musicals. I sing folksongs sometimes too, like Greensleeves. My dad listens to the same things, guitar music such as Al De Meola (he plays the guitar) and sometimes jazz, which is nice, or classic rock. I really can't stand most popular music today. Especially country, and I absolutely cannot handle Taylor Swift, which my friend once forced me to listen to. I like her clothes though!
