Do you lock them up in rain?

Only if the rain is getting inside the coop. I can't stand when the pine chips get wet. I make sure that all the wet pine gets cleaned up right away. I'm so afraid of mold growing and the chickens getting sick.

My chicks are older, 22 wks, I leave the coop door open all day. they can come and go as they please....they seem to love to be out in the rain if its not too hard. However, if they were 6 wk olds I would not allow them out in the rain because of the temp. drop.

If there are mama hens with chicks in either one of the coops I leave them locked up, but if there are no chicks under the age of 6 weeks I leave the door open for them to wander if the feel the urge.

No, nor sleet nor hail nor snow. We love them as pets but they are in fact livestock. Designed by Mother Nature to handle the weather.

My flocks don't get heated coops in the winter or A/C'd coops in the summer. Most they get is a couple of fans. Chickens acclimated to the weather naturally fare much better than chickens kept in as hothouse flowers.

Chicks, yes I take care of them until around 6 weeks old. At that time they are usually ready to deal with the weather on their own. If they are with a broody hen I let her decide what's best for her chicks. I've had broodies bring their days old chicks outside in February. The grew up fine, healthy and hardy.

Just MHO of course
