Do you make your own laundry soap?

Salt, huh? What kind and how much? I have hard water also and have always bought Calgon to put in my laundry-somebody say expensive!?! If you wouldn't mind imparting your wisdom, I would love it. Thanks!

I do. I have found the Fels Naptha at Kroger, along with the Washing Soda. I found the Borax and the Washing Soda at Publix.

Don't substitute baking soda for washing soda!

Here is the recipe I am using....

2 cups grated zote soap
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax
2 cups salt

I had water softener salt left from the time we had an ice storm and Walmart ran out of Ice Melt so I used that. No reason plain salt wouldn't work. If you are using a fine grind salt, you could probably get away with only using 1 cup.
