Do you need to have food and water in the hen house over night?

I keep water in the coop, I've got laying hens and growing teenagers in there so I want them to be able to get a sip if they want it. I don't keep food though except if it's snowing and they don't want to go out. The food just ends up kicked around the coop and attracts unwanted guests. I'm up and out by seven and the food bowl is out and filled to the brim before I ever open that coop door to release the heathens if not I never heard the end of it.
