NY state requires background checks. You go to the counter, they take your drivers licence, make a phone call to the data base, you walk out with the gun you purchased, takes but a few minutes. You can buy a muzzle loader, no background check.

Concealed carry permits, I think there should be a permit, but not NY style where it takes six months to a year to get one and the judge that issues them if anti-gun can deny issue for something as minor as a 20yr ago domestic dispute, speeding ticket, was on anti-anxiety medication once etc. etc.

Yeah I heard about the permitting process there and that's the exact situation I'm referring to that I fear. Heck, I've been prescribed a very low dose of Nortriptyline for chronic migraines and have been taking it for about 15 years, but Nortriptyline is primarily prescribed as an antidepressant. In New York that might disqualify me even though I've never had depression. That's just one situation I can think of but as you said, a speeding ticket or other minor infraction when you were very young could also prevent you from qualifying. I don't think it's ever a good idea to put your rights under the constitution in the hands of someone else who has discretion because they'll always have their own biases.

My point is you shouldn't just be able to walk into a gun shop and come out with an assault rifle ten minutes later. It's just crazy.

Can you define an "assault rifle." Also, assuming you're talking about civilian versions of military rifles, if I'm qualified to do so why shouldn't I be able to do that. I might have been threatened and need it for self defense, or I might want to shoot the many competition matches for this type of rifle, or I might be a ranch owner that is having a major problem with feral hogs wrecking my crops that I depend on for a living. So as long as I'm not denied the right for whatever reason, why should I be restricted? And yes, there are other firearms that can do the job equally well that some politicians may define as not being an "assault" rifle, but then again I don't decide for others what type of vehicle they should drive because that is what I think they "need."

Farmers here have guns for that very reason, to control pests. There's a big difference between owning a fancy car designed to take you from one place to the other, and owning a gun, which is made for one thing only- killing.
There's been too many shootings recently, surely you agree that something should be done?

the thing is most of these people are being misled into believing that more gun laws will help prevent gun crimes or terrorism

Chicago, France, etc.. you can have all the gun laws you want..

since going to an authorized gun dealer to buy guns is not the only way to get guns

things like this is a common in Chicago.. but like always they don't really care much for the crimes/deaths by gun in Chicago.. since the strict gun laws there are perfect and the residents of Chicago are pretty safe right ?

personally.. let the hypocrites release their gun laws.. with their delusional belief that it will stop gun violence and terrorism.. let see where this country will be..

countries like Vietnam, Japan, China have gun ban.. so civilians do not have guns but the criminals have no problem getting their hands on them

when i was in Vietnam i noticed a few things -- when someone told you that a certain person is in a gang-- it's a warning to back of from the confrontation...unless you want to ended up as a victim of a drive by shooting.



the Boston bombers -- the terrorists we let into the country- used bombs instead of guns-- - interesting how they will not blame anything else beside just another case of terrorism..

but when it's a case of terrorism with guns- it's always the guns never the terrorism

there's one thing i'm curious about.. there's another thing that these criminals and terrorists used in their attacks but no one seem to cares..

the cars-- they used cars to get to their destination to commit the murder right? so no car control ?

when some underage kid killed someone in a collision while driving under the influence

you don't see laws coming out for

stricter laws on parenting? cars? alcohol ?

no, they will treat it as a case by case basis..

yet... when guns are involved.. it's always about the guns..

also, you can make your own guns at home now if you have the right tool kit.. yes it's questionable and probably illegal.. but it's a route that some might take

Guns don't kill, people do- that's correct. But guns make it a lot easier. Comparing guns to cars is just silly. I'm not stupid, obviously stricter gun laws won't solve everything, there will always be people determined enough to commit a crime that they will find a way of doing it. But having so many guns around makes it easy for anyone to get their hands on one, and for anyone to commit some kind of shooting. Speaking of alcohol, why is it that certain substances are banned but alcohol is readily available? I'm not suggesting a ban on alcohol, it's just interesting.

since by your definition ..for the last 3+ years .. i probably killed quite a few people already or something ? sorry but i shoot nothing but paper targets like most gun owners out there

maybe it's hard for you to understand this or maybe you didn't know this because what you know are from the news and movies.... but most of us law abiding gun owners shoot nothing but targets.. yet.. you assumed that we all killers because we have guns right? interesting isn't it ?

the leader of this country like to use "common sense" in his speech-- yet him and the people of the same mindset think that all gun owners are criminals just because some psychos/terrorists used guns to kill


there people who do not own guns but tend to go on and on about things that they don't even have.. often time based their opinion on what they learned from the news/movies..


so as my counter argument i'll use cars.. since it's something that most of us will have.. so it's easy to compare and understand from the perspective of being owners

like how it is nonsense if they release some law to increase the driving age because of some maniacs on the road right ?


there are too many vehicle accidents on a daily basis.. you agree that something should be done?

vehicle related deaths are so frequent to the point that we don't really care about the deaths from these accidents anymore

so what do you want to do about it?

increase the driving age to 18 or 21? background check before getting a driver license?.

we tried alcohol ban before.. it didn't go well..

Way back in 83, in a place called Tampa, Fl, a wack job named Bill Ferry , walked into a Winn Dixie grocery store and tossed a bucket of gas on people standing in a checkout line, then a lit book of matches. Killed 5, maimed 13. Last I heard, he still lives in prison, doing 5 life sentences. No screams for gas control or match control. The biggest tragedy about incidences like Orlando, is the fact that out of 300 people, none were armed or prepared to fight back. Remain armed, prepared, and alive.

Gah you completely misunderstood me.. I'm not suggesting all gun owners are killers.. I'm saying that guns were designed to kill or seriously injure. Unlike cars, which yes can be used as a weapon, but are not made for such a use. You have to be seventeen to drive here, Im pretty sure in parts of the US you only have to be fifteen, and yeah I think that's way too young in a lot of cases. But this is a world where a rapist can get away with serving six months in jail, so really the entire "justice" system is a joke.

I guess people don't have to be responsible for their own actions. It's easier to blame guns, ones parents for a lousy childhood, drugs, alcohol, mental illness, etc. And then people want the government to fix everything! My parents taught me to take responsibility for myself, be independent, and not expect someone else to do it. I agree that stricter gun laws will just help the black market. That's the gist of my soapbox!
