First time coop builder here. I am closing off the coop with siding panels. The panels are pre-primed on the outside and are exposed composite on the other. Should I prime and paint the composite side or will it be fine because it is the interior part of the coop?

Any input will help. Thanks :)

I pressure wash my coop yearly and white wash the walls and interior area with lime and water mix.

Is there a reason for "white wash the walls and interior area with lime and water mix." rather then paint? ie help with mites etc...

"Exactly. It is an old fashion procedure done by my great; great; grandfathers."

If you plan on occasionally cleaning out your coop (washing off walls, etc.), then definitely paint. But if you know the extent of your coop cleaning will be removing poop and replacing bedding once a year, then I wouldn't bother.

Paint will make it easier to clean with a gloss finish being the easiest to clean. It will also help the exterior paint last longer by preventing moisture from getting through.

I plan to caulk all the holes and cracks I can find and then paint the entire interior of my coop with white semi-gloss exterior house paint. One good reason is a painted surface is easier to clean and sanitize than an untreated one, especially if you use the siding boards like we did which will absorb moisture, and swell and disintegrate if they get too wet. By caulking and painting the interior I hope to reduce the likelihood of harboring mites and other little nasties since they won't have anywhere to hide. Another good reason for me to paint the interior white is that white reflects light and heat and I want the interior of my coop to be as bright and airy as possible with just natural lighting.

I plan to paint my interior with some high gloss paint. The kids are planning to paint some murals in there as well (think rainbows and clouds here). I'll have to post some pictures of the end result.
