Just a quick poll...I'm curious. How are just "egg people" vs doing both or just birds for meat? Go ahead and vote!
 
I raise mine as pets only. Only a few lay eggs. Others are too old to lay. So eggs it is. Never eat my pets. I do eat chickens from the grocery store though.

Ah, yes. I should have had "Neither" as an option in the poll for keeping chickens strictly as pets. I don't think I can change the poll though.
 
I hatch out my own replacement layers every year.
Cockerels and older hens get sold or harvested for meat.
May keep one or two special hens.
 
My primary intent is for my flock to consist of laying hens only. If I get any roos from my chicks though, I will definitely have fresh meat on the table lol. I don't intend to breed at this point, so a roo is wasted feed/space for me. I hope they all turn out to be hens though because they have names now lol!
