Do You Sell Your Eggs By the Roadside????

Most of our eggs are sold by word of mouth to co-workers and neighbors. We have weekly agreements with them, they leave /bring us last week's empty carton with money enclosed for this week's eggs...we leave them a full carton of eggs. One of the local ranch areas has a cafe that sells farm eggs. They buy them from us at $2/dozen, as many as we can bring, but the employees have all commented on how large and clean OUR eggs are compared to others...I think the employees of the cafe are buying ours

. Lastly, we are increasing our flock this year as we always have a waiting list as well as neighbors who would like some every now and again. I told them (specific neighbors that I trust) that I would hang a decorative flag on our porch when there are eggs available in a cooler. They put money in a slot in the door. We have a very large front porch and it will be easy to keep the cooler right next to the door. One would have to be pretty bold to walk past all of my windows on the porch where we can easily see people and the dogs can see them...to rip off some eggs. And I never put out more than a couple dozen at a time in the past. Also, we both work for the school and are home during the summer, peak season, so rarely is the cooler and money totally unattended. A few of us have also done this with excess garden veggies during past summers and it seems to work well.

I don't live on a main road and I'm not interested in strangers coming to my door. So I keep my flock sized to provide for what I know I can sell to people familiar to us.

This is why I do not have a NPIP flock. It does not insure that your flock is "safe". They can be infected the very next day after being tested. So someone stating their flock is NPIP tested can have a flock full of disease.

Ok..you got me. Your point is very true!

However, if a flock owner practices biosecurity measures before and after their flock is tested safe, it greatly reduces the chance of your flock becoming infected.

Unfortunately I don't that would work here. Too many dishonest people. I have a couple of neighbours that buy them and I have a flier up at a couple of the local RV parks. The owner and caretaker of one of the parks have a standing weekly order. The health food store will buy what ever I have left over and this winter they were calling me to see if I had any eggs because they were out and had people waiting for them.
