Do you set guidelines when you sell....

I always find it interesting when people say "I'll only sell to a non-meat bird home," or "you have to keep me up to date on their life," or whatever the case may be.

Although I usually ask what the plans are when someone buys a bird from me, I dont usually make demands before selling them. I dont agree with saying "you have to do such and such, or this and that." If I find myself thinking about demands and conditions of a sale, then I'm not prepared to fully release that bird to begin with.

In my opinion, when you accept money for an animal, and transfer ownership you dont have any further rights to the animal, and shouldn't set such demands.

Whats your standpoint?

ive seen those ads on craigslist before..they say that they want to do an in home interview and be allowed to visit from time to time..thats a bit much for a free kitten!

I agree - if $$$ exchanged hands, ownership is transferred completely and you may turn around and re-sell, re-home or cull at your discretion. If the sellers are making conditions ahead of time and you didn't want to be bound to them, you could always walk away.

If the bird was given to me for free or adopted (free to a good home, etc) - I'd probably offer the birds back to the original owner before selling or culling. I'd probably also give periodic updates on the birds.

i don't agree with updates and visits and such, but i would not sell any of my animals to a home where they would be harmed or killed. i'm strongly against animal cruelty, so i would make sure my animals would have a good life once they left my hands. selling a duck to a home where it would be negected and possibly killed would be like selling a pit bull to a home where it would be fought. i just couldn't do it.

sorry for the pit bull metaphor, i love pit bulls and i wish i had one, i don't want anybody to think i think they're killing machinces or anything. they are such sweet dogs.

Yep, once its paid for fair and square the new owners can do whatever they want with it, in my honest opinion...

When you SELL something, YOU have no other right to it. It then belongs to the person who paid you money for it. To do as they see fit.

I take good care of all my animals. But if someone starts making demands before i buy something from them. They can keep it as far as i'm concerend

What about roosters? There's an ad on my local craigslist for a Gold Lace Wyandotte roo, that specifies that you can't eat him. I guess they are attached to him, and who can blame them, he's pretty! But can they really track what happens to him?

I agree that once the bird is sold the new owner can do what ever they like with the bird. I can not stand it when people say oh this bird must be a pet and can not be eaten. Well if that is the case then you keep the bird because I might want to eat it.

why is raising a chicken and killing it when the time comes so much worse than it growing up, getting infested with parasites, not being fed properly, or being stuck in some small cage cause it doesn't get along with the other 5 roos that someone has?

When did quantity of life get so much more important than quality of life?
