Do you talk to your eggs while they are in the incubator?

Actually the reason that ducks & geese imprint on people so easily is that they don't imprint until have hatched. Chickens are much harder because they imprint during the last few days inside the egg by talking to mom & learning her voice. So if you are incubating, it's probably a good idea to talk to them.

As a matter of fact yesterday I was peeping to the 2 that hatched. As soon as I heard the pipping noises I started talking, clucking and peeping and they started peeping back. Now I'm waiting for the rest.

According to MissPrissy and Miss_Jayne, talking, whistling and chirping are very stimulating to the hatchers- so yes, it does make a difference!

I've hatched twice, and both times I sang (scared them), talked and chirped to them. I could see a lot more activity when I did. But the best sound was a little bird call! It really encouraged the zipping!

That is a great idea to talk to your eggs and a very intelligent question

A hen talks to her eggs and you know what they are listening

If you will observe a setting hen she will make soft sweet noise's as she sits on them.
In the last week of incubation this talking increase's and the chicks hear her and imprint on her voice.
So when they hatch they already know that sweet voice and won't stray from her.
I talk to my chicks from hatch to adult and all i have to do is say "chick~chick~chick hows my little chick~chicks" and they come running.

So yes your eggs can hear you

I have 1 week old call ducks i started talking to them soon after they hatched to imprint them to my voice.
Today at 1 week i can call them "duck" "duck" "duck" "sweet baby ducks" and they respond and come to me.

Hmmm. In an associated "vein"... It's been noted that playing classical music enhances layer production. I've got a neighbor of mind that runs a commercial breeder house and he attests to the fact. I can't remember where I read it, but it seems that "once upon a time" someone left a radio playing when they left the coop/house. Upon arriving back at the coop the chickens had gathered around the radio like they were at a concert or something.

.

I wonder what impact it would have if some softly playing classical music was played in the incubator...some cheap earbuds with volume turned up a bit, maybe. Maybe some good ol'fashion gospel...

addicted2chicks, not a bad question at all...thanks for asking it as the information being brought up seems definitely good for someone with a home flock.

Might I suggest that you go back and change the title of your thread? The first sentence in your original message would be a good one.

Take care,
Ed
