Do you think chickens get bored?

I'm going to patent that name! Us rednecks know how to make cheap, entertaining toys. I've got a cockatiel who thinks his empty milkbone box is his castle! He'll spend days chewing on it until the sides are just perfect. I've got another who loves the braided grass strands I make for him fresh every morning. Sassy Ann is the happiest with a 97 cent rope dog toy from Walmart. Oscar the parrot likes them, too. PepBird will spend hours talking to a rolled up ball of paper. Nubs loves envelopes. Don't know why, but hang one on a perch and he'll spend hours flipping it about.

Doesn't take much to entertain chickens. But remember you are dealing with naturally timid birds who may at first find the sudden appearance of a paper bag hanging over them a bit too much. So think on the side of safety. Start small, make sure the holes in the bag are large enough for the chickens to see the goodies inside. Lay the bag on the ground so they can send the brave chicken to investigate. Once they learn the bag means food you won't have to put holes in it. Just hang it and let them do their thing.

You can hang a large (long) bolt on a chain and skewer fruits and veggies on it, screw a nut onto the bottom to keep from sliding off.
I have a rope with a brass swivel snap clip and use an eye bolt screw to screw into whatever. Apples, cabbage, romaine lettuce or anything hard enough to screw the bolt into. Watching them jump up to get a nibble is too funny. As their timing isn't always perfect.
