One of my friends is a goth/steampunk girl and, while she does have some opinions and fashions I disagree with, she's actually a pretty cool person to hang out with.

I think the way you dress doesnt dictate the type of person you are.

Today, my goth guy friend came up behind me and started petting my head. I was like standing there in the hall mesmerized.

Nope it doesn't.

Agreed.
Personally, I think it's kinda dumb... but living in AZ, where wearing lots of black can give you heat stroke during most of the year, I'm a bit biased!

Going off of the fix sample at my school. The "goth/emo" crowd have different ways of handling their stress and tend to use it in harmful ways. Most are nice, they don't fit in with the social norm outside of the goth crowd.

I remember when my father almost had an aneurysm when one of my friends in high school picked me up to hang out. Let's just say he saw the huge mohawk, black cloths, and chains, and I am surprised he didn't whip out the shotgun! But my friend was in all AP classes with me, brilliant and witty, he just liked the style. Dad found that out and was cool, but it was kinda hilarious at first. My friend cleans up well, too. About a month after that for college interviews he cut his hair normal and looked like an average joe.

But anyhoo, clothing style, number of piercings, etc. does not make a personality. We stereotypically believe that x looking person believe x way, but that is never true, haha. One of my other friends in high school was the most petite, stylish girl, a cheerleader, but also a rabid video game player and also top of the class. Most people class cheerleaders as dumb, preppy girls who can't add 2+2. Nope, she was in the AP classes with me, too.
