Do you think I need to get a rooster? Seriously, I need input here...

Hi,

I have no idea what you should do but I hope your hen/roo resolves her/his issues and all turns out well.

But if I hear any crowing coming from my henhouse, I'll be sure to look into it instead of thinking I'm imagining things. This post is a real eye-opener.

Good luck! Genie

So here is a bit of an update...today for the first time I put my new EE pullet in the Mrs Prissy(the hen in question, lol)...let them meet each other face to face and everything went pretty good...then I let Mrs Prissy out to free range which is the first time she has done that in a month because we moved to a new place. Well, don't laugh now, but I squatted down and started tapping the ground with my finger and making that Chook Chook noise that my former rooster would make when he found food...when she came over I took my hand and pushed her down so that she had to squat and I just held her there for a few seconds. After she went back into the run, she started doing her pre-egg cackle but didn't crow....so keep them fingers crossed!

As idiotic as it sounds, I'm wondering if doing that from time to time will help until I can locate a roo.

Sounds like she just needed to get in touch with her own femininity. Maybe next time you go shopping for lingerie, you can take her with you.

There's that glass ceiling in the coop-erate structure....always trying to keep women down(literally)!

Can't do what a rooster does, blah, blah, blah! I say equal rights for hens!

You know, my grandmother would have said something similar...that southern Appalachian superstition, lol.
Well, I checked on the two of them...and I couldn't believe it. My new EE went into the coop without me physically putting her in there. she must be a smart cookie, lol. The two of them seem to be doing ok together. I'm really proud of 'em! Now, if we can just leave the crowing to the roosters...

Edited to add: I am now actively looking for an EE roo! anyone near Southwestern NC?
