The "poop picking poll" caused me to think about this, and just wanted to get your opinions.....
I'm currently in the process of trying to teach my chickens to stop pooping all together.
I've discussed this with them and I think I may be starting to get through to them.
We usaully have these talks when I walk out to the coop with a handfull of treats.
They always come running, and line up in front of me while I explain to them what I want.
They are always very attentive, and are listening to everything I say.
Although, I have learned, that I need to finish my speech before giving them any of the treats.
It seems that they become much less attentive, and basically ignore me if I give them the treats first.
When I just stand there and hold the treats, while giving my little speech, they are much more attentive.
They will sometimes even get rather "Chatty", and I'm sure that they are discussing it over, with each other.
I'm confident that we are making some headway, and hoping that they will understand.
I've tried to explain to them, that having to clean out the coop evey week, and rake out the run, is kind of time consuming.
I've even tried to reason with them, and asked if maybe we could come to some sort of a compromise.
I've suggested, that maybe if I was to place a large plastic tub in the run, and they could just poop innside of it, that would help alot.
I know that they understand me, because we have even tried it a few times, and when I leave the tub in the run,
they will occaisionally jump in and out of the tub, so obviously, we are making a little bit of progress here.
I have even found a couple of poops inside the tub, so I'm sure that they have discussed this amongst themselfs, and I'm starting to win a couple of them over.
It seems that if I leave some of the treats in the tub, they are even More willing to spend a little time there.
So what do you guy's think ? ..... Am I making some real headway with them?.... Do you think they will all start pooping in the tub soon ???
