Do you think it was a fluke that this bird won......

That was quite blatant.

That roo certainly makes some tasty eye candy!

It's just fact. 4-H is usually for any pretty bird, and does not at all make it show quality. Illia did not say that there's anything bad about that.

To the OP- 4-H is more of just a fun, small hobby thing. It doesn't make a bird show quality, since no APA judgments are involved.

That's good to know since I don't know what I am even looking for in "show quality" birds. I'm new at this 4-H thing. My daughter sure had a blast! We didn't know what to do there but we all had fun!

Plus with every show its what the catches the judges eye!! My daughter won Grand Champ with this guy at a 4-H show. I figured fluke so sold him lol! the judge at this show went pretty hard on the kids and judged it like it was a sanctioned show. I was shocked that my .75 roo wond Grand lol!

And that is all that is important! We all had to start somewhere. Having a good time, along with the win will fuel her passion and she will learn as she goes!

I love him. I tend to lean towards my favorites as the ones that are different. I want to show some silkies but I have no idea what i'm doing either. I keep asking but don't really get any answers. It would be nice if somebody could come and take a look at what I got and give me pointers. But I figure if they know that much to be able to give me pointers and tell me what is show worthy then my bird would be competition so I can't get anybody to help me. I did some research about it and I guess i'll be "winging it" and learn as I go.

I have learned tho its not all SQ birds its the fun the kids have. Usually my kids would win on showmanship etc... They had more fun with our .75 chckens then anything.. Now we have done it for a few years and am trying to get a few SQ chickens to do other shows. But at the 4-H level its all about fun for us

. I like to come here post pics here what people have to say. Just to learn then show the darn faulty bird anyway cause it sits in the kids hands like a baby.
