Most young cockerals go through the change around the 16 week mark. You will know during this time if he will be people aggressive or not.
Lester I picked out of a group of 5 wyandotte roosters to be my flocks leader. He has turned into a great pic so far. He is 8 months old now. Cinnimon is my cuddle 6 month old silkie rooster.
Got 2 in my bachler pen that are 18 weeks that are friendly. These are mixed. Piper is Austrolarp x Dominique with dark cuckoo pattern. He has beetle green stripes mixed in which looks cool in sunlight. Butters is Ameraucana x Wyandotte with white body and some buff coloring bleeding through on his wings.
Also have 1 cocky black frizzle bantam cochin cockeral and 1 shy buff silkie mixed cockeral (bantam).
My concern would be with the smaller kids. As roosters can be unpredictable, even the nice ones will test the bounderies.
You would need to learn how to act around them and teach you kids how to act. They sense fear the same as a dog. The key is for you and the kids to be established as flock leaders.
